Under water museum !
Sri Lanka’s first-ever underwater museum was declared open today the 17th June.
This underwater museum, a sculpture park and a collection of artifacts were hand made by the personnel of Sri Lanka Navy using eco friendly materials.
The whole underwater site has been set at a depth of around 50 feet in the Galle harbour area providing a unique sightseeing experience for anyone including children, adults, experienced divers, scuba beginners as well as ordinary swimmers.
The main aim of this project is to promote the regeneration of corals and fish breeding. The Navy stated that it was very encouraging to see the fish breeding has already started at the site since they started the project .
The total income which will be generated by entry tickets will be utilized to maintain the project and to further develop.
Sri Lanka Navy invite tourists who will soon start visiting the island from 1st August to come and explore the site which will also be a contribution to the nature, to marine life in the Indian Ocean .
