22nd November 2021 update:
Sri Lankan boarders were open for tourists from selected countries since April 2021 as a pilot project. During this period Sri Lanka tourism together with the health ministry set up a comprehensive and a strategic framework in handling tourists during the pandemic with a special focus on the safety of the clients , our staff and of our communities. By now the industry have done a series of trainings to all related industry personnel, established a certification process to all related suppliers and set up an emergency response model in unlikely event of our valued clients need assistance. Having mastered the protocols and having working towards one of the fastest vaccination campaigns in the world, Sri Lanka is now ready to welcome the world. As at today, 99% of all Sri Lankans above 30 are fully vaccinated whilst 20-29 age group is 90% vaccinated. Currently Sri Lanka is vaccinating the age group between 16-29. From 17th November the Health authorities started giving the 3rd booster shot for the fully vaccinated and all personnel in tourism will have priority.
